DASHAMANOTSAVA 07-02-2010

The completion of a decade of the Anjaneya Swamy Temple project was a very important landmark. To commemorate this occasion, the trustees, with the consent of patrons, donors and devotees alike, thought it fit to celebrate this historic event with a grand cultural event on Sunday the 07.02.10.
The hallmark of the occasion was the august participation of the scion of the erstwhile Throne of Punganur, Shri Somashekararayalu. He was accompanied by his wife Smt Usha Rayalu, his sister and his two nephews. It will be appreciated, that it was this royal house that gave shelter to our fore fathers to set camp at the present Marandahalli. He spoke of the immense gratitude he felt upon being felicitated by the people of Marandahalli and the temple trustees.

Another important dignitary to grace the occasion was the presence of Prof Sri Mattur Chandrashekharji a high profile Vedic scholar closely associated with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Avadhani Shri Ramesh a highly learned Vedic scholar also associated with Bharatuya Vidya Bhavan. It was an atmosphere charged with great energy when Shri Chandrashekharji and Shri Ramesh welcomed Shri Somashekararayalu, amidst chanting of Veda mantras with the accompaniment of drums and pipes to mark the auspicious occasion.
Shri Chandrashekarji’s speech later, kept the audience spell-bound as he spoke in his immimitable style narrating the story of the Ramayana with reference to the contemporary context. It was indeed a discourse to be remembered. Infact it was Shri Chandrashekharji, who held the audience together with his disarming smile and his friendly demeanour.

Shri A R Dhanankar, the secretary of the Trust, gave a riveting speech exhorting youngsters and other residents to get motivated and participate in building a strong community. As usual his speech was peppered with plenty of humour and relevant Sanskrit Subhashitas.

A short stirring speech by Sri.M.V.Prasad ,an NAL engineer and local resident, exhorting the youth of the village to rise and take up challenging assignments in the country.

The grand finale of the day was the musical concert performed by Vidwan Shri Raghuram and his troupe. Shri Raghuram is a renowned violin maestro, and has performed and does so even now, with many other Carnatic classical greats all over the world. He was accompanied by his wife Smt Hemalatha on the Veena, and Shri Abhijit on the Mridunga. Interestingly, his daughters, Kum Ramya and Kum Divya also accompanied him on the violin. It was indeed a proud moment for Shri Raghuram and locals as his wife belongs to Marandahalli. The hour long recital saw Shri Raghuram render a couple of Shri Purandaradasa’s and Shri Thyagaraja’s compositions to great perfection and applause.

Such was the resounding success of this function, that it was unanimously decided to hold such a cultural event once every year.
